Docton Mill Gardens

John Borret describes the purchase of Docton Mill as ‘the worst property deal I’ve ever been involved in’ going on to explain that he and his wife Lana were ‘so, so besotted, it meant so much to us, in the fact that it would be a lifestyle change, we were both getting out of careers that we didn’t like...’ The couple loved Docton Mill from their very first glimpses of it – describing it as ‘magical’.

And it would be very hard to disagree. Just a twenty minute walk away from the spectacular coastal waterfall at Spekes Mouth on the Hartland peninsula, itself an area of outstanding natural beauty, this is a gem of a garden. Based around a restored mill and its waterways, the garden is extensively planted and incredibly lush and green.

Green in more ways than one, this is a garden that strives to be ecologically friendly. Head Gardener Sarah notes that it is ‘a privilege to be in such a wild environment, so pure and healthy, there isn’t even any noise pollution – the only noise you’ll hear is bird song, water running…and I want to keep it that way with the way I manage the garden.’
