Burrow Farm Gardens

Burrow Farm Gardens are notable for their variety – as can be seen to some extent in these video extracts. From the formal lines of the Millennium garden and the Pergola, to the verdant jungle of the Bog Garden, Burrow Farm excels at relaxed, abundant planting schemes which fit perfectly with the rolling hills of the surrounding Devonshire countryside.

The clips are too short, however, to reveal the personal story behind what is a very personal garden. Burrow Farm is the result of one woman’s endeavours – Mary Benger started the garden from scratch using the not so princely sum of £15. Watch The Heart of a Garden for the inspirational story of Mary’s horticultural journey – from a young child choosing pansies for her birthday, to creating, in a disused overgrown Roman clay pit, a garden which would keep expanding over the years until it encompassed a very respectable 10 acres. Mary’s enthusiasm for gardening even seems to have had a positive influence on her grandchildren – so you might find a few ideas for keeping the kids away from their Playstations!
