Bourton House Garden

This compact 3 acre garden is a dazzling example of great design; a showcase for the relationship between form and colour. If that all sounds a bit too serious, then it shouldn’t; this is a joyous garden, bursting with ideas and quirky touches. There is a great spirit of camaraderie between owner Monique and her gardeners Paul Nicholls and Jackie Rae, and it’s obvious that they have a laugh together whilst working in this beautiful garden.

As the clips show, the garden has quite a reputation for its topiary - but the Knot Garden featured is just one example. Providing a backdrop to deep herbaceous beds of vivid plants are various precisely clipped spirals, balls and Ogees – the so-called ‘line of beauty’, a shape repeated in the garden’s design to great effect. The complete film reveals a very contemporary garden perfectly in keeping with its gorgeous Cotswold setting and, perhaps more importantly, the very different characters that have joined forces to created it.
