Compton Acres

Above all, what Compton Acres offers is variation – which is surely part of the reason it is so popular. An oasis in the bustling Dorset town of Poole, the gardens provide the perfect opportunity to get some rest and relaxation away from the stresses of modern life. The clips show just some of the garden ‘rooms’ at Compton, they hint at the ever-changing scenery as you wander through the gardens. In the Wooded Valley, a lush jungle overflowing with huge rhododendrons, you are so sheltered from the outside world that you almost find yourself listening for the calls of exotic birds of paradise.

The full version of the film shows even more of Compton Acres and explains how such an extraordinary set of gardens came to be created as the result of one amateur gardener’s passion in the 1920s. With an emphasis on the authentic Japanese garden and the glorious Italian Garden, the film also makes stars of the garden’s animal life – such as huge Koi carp and lazy Red-Eared terrapins.
