Fast Rabbit Farm Garden

You do get a sense from the video clips that this is a very personal garden – Alan Mort is clearly proud of the work he’s put into its creation and maintenance, and he’s a good advertisement for the joys of gardening. This may well be a garden that you haven’t heard of, a true ‘secret garden’, a little tricky to find but well worth the effort. Watching the full film will show you why – Fast Rabbit is bursting with life and vitality. It boasts a stunning array of tender plants, all flourishing in the South Devon climate, rhododendrons, cherry blossoms and one of the nicest star magnolias I’ve seen, in a lovely position overhanging the lake.

Wildflowers are also a feature of this garden, as is wildlife – the film captures quite a variety, including some really beautiful dragonflies…and simply trillions of rabbits (sight exaggeration!). Which brings us to that strange name, Fast Rabbit, which actually alludes to the profusion of hares at the garden. However, they certainly managed to make themselves scarce when the camera crew were about – you’ll have to watch the Heart of a Garden to see if we ever found any!
