Pencarrow

The video excerpts give you some sense of the space at Pencarrow – with glorious wildflower meadows and woodlands, there’s a real sense of freedom here, an atmosphere that you simply don’t get at most gardens. Pencarrow is typical of the Cornish country estate, it has acres and acres to explore, a gorgeous Georgian style house, and a fascinating history. The full film uncovers a plethora of stories about the gardens, which have been the scene of some notable horticultural firsts, but also gives some idea of how Pencarrow has adapted over the years to meet the challenges of the modern world.

We also see a portrait of a very much loved and lived in family estate – where children are welcomed and can enjoy a host of events, as well as a chance to stretch their legs and marvel at the garden’s rather noisy Peacocks. The mile-long carriage drive is but one highlight of the film, but perhaps the overall feel is of a garden where you wouldn’t want to run around ticking things off a list. Watch The Heart of a Garden to find out why Pencarrow is the perfect place to take some time out and relax.
