The Abbey Garden, Tresco

Get ready for a visual feast! You can easily see just how exotic Tresco Abbey is from the video extracts, but the full version portrays a garden which is positively a hive of activity. With over 20,000 plants representing countries from all around the world, you just can’t get enough of the colour and diversity on offer here. A real pioneering garden, in a very special location – maybe we’re biased, but is there really anywhere that can rival the unspoilt scenery of the Scillies on a good day?

Highlights include the bizarre Proteas, some with striking hot pink feathery goblets (P. neriifolia) or huge artichoke-like flowers such as the national flower of South Africa, the King Protea (P. cynaroides). These are plants that look like they hail from another planet, never mind another country. The Puya, a bromeliad seen more commonly on the slopes of the Andes, is yet another star of the show. The crew were lucky enough to capture the spectacle of the garden’s feathered inhabitants dinning out on these flowering plants. After seeing this you might imagine the garden is home to painted birds of paradise rather than common starlings and blackbirds!
