Trebah Gardens

As the excerpts reveal, this ravine garden, with its own private beach on the Helford River, has a superb location and the Giant Rhubarb, or Gunnera, is but one highlight. The Gunnera plantation is striking throughout the year but perhaps most obviously so in summer, when the prehistoric-looking Brazilian plants grow up to 16ft high with leaves 8ft in width. You can’t help but feel Lilliputian surrounded by these monsters!

Open all year round, this is a garden that always impresses horticulturally, and can brighten even the dreariest of days with the vivid colour of its diversity of rare and tender plants. Yet Trebah also has an intriguing history, and has played an important role in WW2. These days it is popular as a venue which welcomes people of all ages; Trebah is not afraid to be more than a garden, a platform to inspire the creativity of others. The full film features dance and art installations, a portrait of the garden across the seasons, some fascinating time lapse photography – and a myriad of reasons why many people count Trebah as their favourite day out, visiting time and time again.
