Campaign continues to ‘save our ancient woodland’

As you may have heard the Government has recently abandoned plans to sell off England's publicly owned forests. During the scrapped consultation process the Woodland Trust launched a campaign to protect England's ancient forests from further destruction. This campaign is still ongoing as the Trust is seeking permanent law abiding assurances from Government that previous ancient woodland sites which have been re-planted with dense dark conifers will be returned to their former glory.

These woods are the UK’s richest natural habitats and stretch back hundreds - if not thousands - of years to a long forgotten past when knights in shining armour roamed to bustling castles throughout the kingdom. They are highly sensitive to change; beautiful, inspiring and once gone lost forever. In modern times people of all ages visit these woods to discover nature at its most brilliant – for free.

We support the Woodland Trust’s campaign that protection must be guaranteed and the very important commitments to restore all of the Forestry Commission’s damaged ancient woods (more than 20,000 hectares) to their rightful place are honoured, no matter who owns the woods in the future.

Please help the Woodland Trust by clicking on the icon above and signing the campaign petition. Every declaration of support could be crucial in saving our nation’s woodland for future generations to enjoy.
